Activation Failed: The certificate authority is invalid
  Question

When attempting to activate the security software, I am getting an Activation Failed: The certificate authority is invalid error.

What do I need to do to resolve this error?

  Answer

When you attempt to download the security software, a Security Alert prompt is displayed, allowing you to proceed as shown in the following:

If you click on Yes to continue with the activation process you may then receive an error window about an invalid certificate.

This is caused by a missing certificate authority.

Microsoft has released an update to the certificate authorities which is described here:

"This item updates the list root certificates on your computer to the latest list that is accepted by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Root Certificate Program. Adding additional root certificates to your computer enables a greater range of secure Web browsing, secure e-mail, and secure code delivery applications to work seamlessly. This update includes root certificates from Verisign, Thawte, and Post.Trust in Ireland. "

To update your certificate authority, Click Here. When prompted, save the file to your PC.

Go to the folder where you saved the file and double click on the file. Click Yes to all of the prompts.

When completed, please activate your security software again.
